#1: First Post, Kinda Nervous Lol.
3 min read
It's late, my mind is frazzled, and Wingstop closes at 2 so I need to finish this quick.

Come to think of it, I can’t actually remember the last time I sat down and took the time to write about anything that interested me that wasn’t also mandated by a teacher or professor as part of an academic assignment. It was probably in my early teen years, or somewhere around then. As of today, that fact will remain mostly unchanged, as I’m not going to be talking about anything particularly interesting today, either. Mostly just some slightly structured rambling to get you used to what to potentially expect moving forward.
Why Now?
We live in a pretty crazy time (groundbreaking take, I know). Optimism seems to be in short supply whenever I browse social media or news outlets. And when I looked into blogging specifically, I was immediately met with article after article about why it’s a waste of time, why it’s oversaturated, why AI has ruined the digital media space, etc. All the signs point to it not being worth my time.
I feel like that has been more or less the story of my life. Cutting short something that I, in reality, wanted to continue with, only to be discouraged into quitting under the guise of not wanting to waste my time.
Speaking of which, what does it even mean to waste time? If I plan to nap in the middle of the day, is that time wasted, even though it’s what I had intended to do? Is begrudgingly working for 14 hours straight to meet that hard deadline your manager set for you not a waste of time because you were “productive” from a corporate standpoint? Why does it seem like we measure the worth of time based on how it translates to future financial or intellectual returns? It’s almost as if our emotions don’t matter and our finite existence can only be justified by what we can provide to others, whether that be a manager, a stranger, or even our future selves. If anyone can speak to why this is the case, please let me know. All I know is that it’s exhausting.
Anyways, back to the question: Why did I pick now to start a blog? Hmm, not exactly sure. It’s certainly not because I expect this to somehow free me from being yet another desk jockey, nor do I think any of the skills I may gain from consistently posting here will particularly translate into being more successful in my profession.
At best, you can call it a fun hobby. At worst, one might call it desperation. Desperation to hear from others like me about how the hell they’re plugging away at an unfulfilling career and a life that would have left their younger selves disillusioned.
Buuuuut we’ll just call it a fun hobby for now. Or, as someone might put it, wasting a little bit of time.
What’s Next?
I don’t really know. I don’t even know what I’m going to eat for breakfast tomorrow, much less what I’m going to write to you wonderful people about next time, let alone in the days that follow.
I’ve been living rather off the cuff recently, doing more of what feels intangibly right as opposed to what’s tangibly productive, and I gotta say, it’s been nice.
So if you wanna know whether I’m going to talk about health, philosophy, technology, or the political and economic state of the world next, I guess you just gotta come back and find out ;)
