The fine print
Privacy Policy
Last updated
Sonder and Serendipity is a personal blog, written and run by one person in Ontario, Canada. It exists so you can read what I write. There are no accounts, nothing to sign up for, and nothing for sale. This page explains, as plainly as I can, what happens to information when you visit.
The short version
- I don’t ask for your personal information, and there are no forms, comments, or sign-ups.
- I don’t use analytics, advertising, or tracking tools, and the site doesn’t set cookies.
- Like every website, the service that hosts this one handles some technical information, such as your IP address, simply to deliver pages to you.
Information I collect
The site itself doesn’t ask for, store, or knowingly collect personal information about you. You can read everything without telling me who you are.
If you ever choose to contact me, I’ll receive whatever you include in your message, such as your email address and name, and I’ll use it only to read and reply to you.
Technical information
Whenever your browser loads a web page, it automatically sends some technical details along with the request. This usually includes your IP address, your browser and operating system, the page you asked for, the page that linked you here, and the date and time.
This blog runs on a third-party hosting provider. Their systems receive these details in order to deliver pages, keep the site running, and protect it from abuse, and they may keep them in logs for a limited time under their own privacy policy. Their servers may be located outside Canada, which means this information may be processed in other countries and be subject to their laws.
I don’t use this information to identify you, build a profile of you, or follow you around the internet. I don’t routinely look at it. If I ever do, it would be to fix a technical problem or deal with abuse of the site.
Cookies and tracking
The site doesn’t set cookies, and it doesn’t use local storage, tracking pixels, fingerprinting, or any other way of recognizing you from one visit to the next.
Your browser may still save copies of things like images and stylesheets so pages load faster next time. That cache stays on your device and is under your control.
Fonts, images, and other services
The fonts and images on this site are served from the site itself, so reading here doesn’t make your browser contact font services, social networks, video platforms, or ad networks. There are no embedded videos, share buttons, or comment widgets.
If you follow the blog through its RSS feed, your feed reader fetches the feed from this site. The feed reader you use has its own privacy practices.
Links to other websites
Articles may link to other websites. Once you follow a link, you’re on a site I don’t control, and its own privacy practices apply. It’s worth checking their policies if that matters to you.
Sharing information
I don’t sell, rent, or trade personal information, and I don’t share it with advertisers. Apart from the hosting provider handling technical information as described above, the only time I would disclose information is if I were legally required to, for example by a valid court order. Since I hold very little, there would be very little to disclose.
Security and retention
Because the site doesn’t collect or store personal information, there’s no visitor database to protect. Pages are delivered over an encrypted connection. If you email me, I keep your message only as long as I need it, and I’ll delete it if you ask. Logs kept by the hosting provider follow their own retention schedule. No system is perfectly secure, but I try to keep what little I have to a minimum.
Questions and requests
If you have a question about this policy, or you’d like to know what personal information I have about you (most likely none, unless you’ve emailed me), or ask me to correct or delete it, please get in touch. I’ll do my best to respond within 30 days.
You can reach me at sonderandserendipity@yahoo.com.
Changes to this policy
If the way this site works changes in a way that affects your privacy, I’ll update this page when that change happens and adjust the date at the top. The current version will always be here.
